Sierra Vista Man Arrested For Super Extreme DUI Following Rollover

The Sierra Vista Police Department arrested a Hereford man, 30-year-old Hereford resident Terry Burke, for a super extreme DUI on Wednesday after responding to a single vehicle rollover accident near Coronado Drive and Buffalo Soldier Trail that afternoon.

Police officers and Sierra Vista Fire & Medical Services personnel responded to the reported accident at about 3:40 p.m. on Wednesday. A vehicle with a single occupant had rolled over twice before coming to rest on the south side of Buffalo Soldier Trail.

Burke was not injured. Officers arrested Burke for driving under the influence following the initial assessment on scene and transported him back to the police station. After further investigation at the station, Burke was cited for super extreme DUI and having an open container of spirituous liquor in the vehicle.

A super extreme DUI applies when an individual has a blood alcohol content of at least 0.20.

“In light of the location, the time of day, and Burke’s extremely high blood alcohol content, this accident could have easily turned out much worse,” says Tim Wachtel, SVPD public information officer. “It’s fortunate no other vehicles were involved and Burke was able to walk away uninjured.”

With the continuous partnership of the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, the Sierra Vista Police Department would like to remind drivers if you choose to drive hammered, you will get nailed. Their goal is to educate the public on the dangers and consequences associated with impaired driving, so fewer people choose to do it.

“Remember, it’s not illegal to drink, but please drink responsibly. Get a designated driver, call a friend, or take a taxi to your destination. Don’t put yourself and others at risk,” Wachtel says.
