Border Patrol Agent, Canine Find Mucho Marijuana

Agents arrested a 20-year-old smuggler after finding 155 pounds of marijuana inside of the vehicle he was driving

Ajo Border Patrol Station agents working at an immigration checkpoint on State Route 85 arrested a 20-year-old male U.S. citizen Wednesday afternoon after finding more than 155 pounds of marijuana in the vehicle he was driving.

When the man arrived at the checkpoint in a 2011 Mitsubishi Eclipse, the agent’s canine partner alerted to an odor it was trained to detect. During the subsequent secondary inspection, agents found seven bundles of marijuana, worth almost $78,000, in the vehicle’s trunk.

The driver was taken into custody without incident and faces prosecution for smuggling contraband. Agents transported the car and marijuana to the Ajo Border Patrol Station to be processed for seizure.
