Yavapai County Deputy Shoots Suspect In Chino Valley Domestic Disturbance

Just after 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies, with assistance from Chino Valley Police Officers, encountered an armed male suspect in the 400 block of Palomino Road in Chino Valley. The male suspect was being sought by deputies regarding a domestic violence incident that occurred earlier in the Paulden area in which he attacked his wife.

Deputies were told the suspect was armed and had threatened any law enforcement officers responding to the incident. The suspect was driving a blue, older model van.

The vehicle was located in Chino Valley and eventually stopped in a parking lot in the 400 block of Palomino Road. Chino Valley Officers arrived to assist with the traffic stop. The suspect confronted the deputies and officers with a firearm and was shot as a result of the threat. Personnel from both agencies, YCSO and the Chino Valley Police Department, were involved in the shooting.

The suspect, a 70-year-old man, was eventually transported to Yavapai County Regional Medical Center in Prescott and then flown to a Phoenix area hospital for further treatment. An update on his condition will be provided when known. No officers were injured.

The Department of Public Safety, Officer Involved Shooting Team, was contacted and will be handling the investigation on behalf of both law enforcement agencies.
