McCain, Flake Censured By One Of Arizona’s Largest Republican Clubs

In June 2017, Sen. John McCain was confused during his questioning of former FBI director James Comey.

On Friday, one of the largest Republican organizations in Arizona sent letters of censure to senators John McCain and Jeff Flake. The SaddleBrooke Republican Club (SBRC) acted on the unanimous vote of its membership to censure the most unpopular members of congress.

“Senator John McCain, after running for re-election on a “repeal Obamacare” platform and after seven plus years of Republican attempts to repeal Obamacare, turned his back on the people of Arizona and voted to keep Obamacare. Senator McCain abandoned support of Candidate Trump as the Republican Presidential Candidate and has continued to attack our President after the election. Senator McCain has shown himself to be not a Republican expressing American values but a closet progressive espousing globalist values,” according to the group’s press release.

From SBRC:
The SaddleBrooke Republican Club is one of the largest Republican Clubs in Arizona. The centerpiece of what we do is our monthly speakers education program. During non-election years, our forums address subjects of special interest to our membership. Examples are Lack of Border Control, Radical Islam, and Medicaid Expansion, as well as updates from public officials.

“Senator Flake also abandoned Candidate Trump as the Republican Presidential Candidate and has continued his attacks post-election. Senator Flake was a co-sponsor of a bill to restore freedom of travel to Cuba without demanding the release of political prisoners or the cessation of torture. Senator Flake’s vote in favor of Obama’s illegal executive scheme earned Senator Flake the title of Sanctuary Senator. Despite the title of his most recent book, Senator Flake is no Barry Goldwater,” continued the statement.

McCain has been censured several times over the years. In 2016, the members of the Maricopa County Republican Committee sent a loud message to the Party’s establishment by passing the “Anybody BUT McCain” Resolution at its annual mandatory meeting. The resolution passed by a vote of approximately 921 to 582. Supporters of the resolution said the victory reinforced the previous censures of McCain.

A Morning Consult poll conducted in July 2017, revealed that McCain and Flake were among the least three popular members of Congress in the entire country. Only Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was more unpopular.
