Two Illegal Immigrants Rescued After Beacon Activation

Tucson, Ariz. – Border Patrol agents from the Ajo Station responded to a 911 call late Tuesday night, followed by the activation of a rescue beacon in the desert west of Ajo, and rescued two adult male Mexican nationals.

The man who placed the 911 call told agents he and the other man had been walking in the desert for three days. He also told agents he could see a rescue beacon in the distance.

Agents responded to the area from where the call had originated and began searching. Approximately two hours later, a nearby rescue beacon was activated. Agents went to the beacon and found both men, exhausted, but otherwise medically sound.

The men were subsequently arrested for immigration violations and transported to the Ajo Station for further processing.

Border Patrol officials encourage anyone in distress to call 911, or activate a rescue beacon, before becoming a casualty.
