Border Patrol Agents Rescue Illegal Border Crossers

Border Patrol agents from Tucson Sector responded to four 9-1-1 calls and two rescue beacon activations over the weekend in different locations of the west desert, resulting in the rescue of seven undocumented aliens.

On Friday night, agents assigned to the Ajo Station, responded to separate calls for help. After receiving a 9-1-1 call from two men who were without water and had blisters on their feet, agents responded and located the subjects and provided basic first-aid. Several hours later, a man activated a rescue beacon prompting response from agents. All three men were found and determined to be Mexican nationals.

Saturday night, agents from the Three Points Station received a 9-1-1 call from a Mexican national who had been lost in the desert four days. Agents responded to GPS coordinates that were generated by the call and located the man. Later in the evening, agents from the Ajo Station responded to another 9-1-1 call from a Mexican national in distress. The GPS coordinates generated by this phone call was also used to locate the man.

Early Sunday morning, Casa Grande agents rescued a Guatemalan national after he activated a rescue beacon on the Tohono O’odham Nation. A few hours later, a Mexican national, who claimed to have been walking alone in the desert for 3 days, called 9-1-1 and requested assistance. Three Points Station agents found the man and provided basic first-aid.

All subjects were evaluated and did not require further medical attention. The subjects were arrested for immigration violations and are being processed in accordance with Tucson Sector guidelines.

Border Patrol officials urge anyone in distress to call 9-1-1 or to activate a rescue beacon before becoming a casualty. In fiscal year 2016, Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents rescued more than 1,400 people; mostly in the western Arizona region.
