Governor Ducey Sets Dates for CD-8 Special Election

Governor Ducey has scheduled the Special Election to replace Congressman Trent Franks for April 24, 2018, with the Special Primary Election to be held on February 27.

Ducey,  in accordance with state law, had set the dates for special elections to fill the seat vacated when Franks resigned amid sexual misconduct allegations.

Nominating paperwork must be filed by the candidates no later than January 10.

Pressure from House Speaker Paul Ryan influenced Rep Franks to resign on Friday after he initially announced he would leave office on January 31.

Congressional District 8 covers much of the northwest Phoenix suburbs and is heavily Republican.

Several GOP politicians have already announced their intention to run for the seat including State Senator Steve Montenegro, who was endorsed by Sheriff Joe Arpiao on Monday, and former Corporation Commissioner Bob Stump.
