The Tucson Police Department is still investigating a motorcycle collision that occurred earlier this month on Tucson’s East Side and became fatal 6 days later when Manuel Herrera Jr. succumbed to his injuries.

On December 10, 2017, at approximately 6:30 p.m., officers and members of the Tucson Fire Department (TFD) responded to a report of a serious injury collision involving a single motorcycle at the intersection of East Golf Links Road and South Wilmot Road. TFD personnel were the first to arrive on-scene and rendered aid to the motorcyclist. He was transported to Banner University Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

Tucson Police Traffic Detectives responded to the scene to continue the investigation. They determined that a 2006 Honda Sport motorcycle quickly exited a private lot and headed north on Wilmot Road, just north of the intersection of Golf Links and Wilmot. The motorcyclist lost control of his vehicle, struck a raised median, and crashed into the middle lane of northbound Wilmot. It appears that both speed and alcohol were factors in the collision. In addition, the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, although there was one on his motorcycle.

The motorcyclist remained at Banner UMC in critical condition after the collision. On December 16, 2017, he was pronounced deceased from injuries sustained in the collision. He has been identified as 40-year-old Manuel Herrera Jr. and next of kin have been notified.
