Tucson Pedestrian Killed In South Side Collision

The Tucson Police Department is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred last night on Tucson’s South Side, involving 25-year-old Jimena Jimenez.

On December 23, 2017, at approximately 6:30 p.m., officers and members of the Tucson Fire Department (TFD) responded to a collision involving Ms. Jimenez at West Canada Street and South 12th Avenue. TFD rendered aid to Ms. Jimenez, who was lying in the roadway, and she was transported to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

She passed away shortly after arrival at the hospital.

Tucson Police Traffic detectives were able to determine that a 2006 BMW sedan was northbound on 12th Avenue in the median lane. As the driver approached Canada St, Ms. Jimenez, who was walking eastbound across 12th Avenue, stepped in front of the vehicle. She was not in or near a crosswalk. The driver was unable to stop or otherwise avoid Ms. Jimenez, and she was struck in the roadway.

The driver of the BMW remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. He was not impaired at the time of the collision, and detectives are working to determine if speed was a factor. It is unknown at this time if Ms. Jimenez was impaired. The investigation is ongoing and no arrests or citations have been issued at this time.
