On January 8, 2018, at approximately 6:20 p.m., Tucson Police officers responded to a report of a fight involving a firearm. Officers located the victim, who reported that two known associates threatened him with a handgun and left in a vehicle.
The victim and a total of five Tucson Police officers, all in uniform and driving marked patrol vehicles, were speaking with each other in front of the Rita Ranch Storage, Car & Dog Wash located at 7850 S. Rita Rd.
A short time later, the victim noticed a dirt bike approaching their location, occupied by two people. He believed that the occupants were the same suspects involved in the earlier incident. As they drove past on Rita Rd, the passenger fired several gunshots toward the officers and the victim, who took cover and did not return fire. Once they determined that everyone on-scene was not injured, they attempted to follow the suspects, but lost sight of them. The Tucson Police Department Air Unit arrived on-scene and checked on a residence associated with the suspects, located in the 9000 block of East Lippia Street. They located the dirt bike on the property along with two males and directed officers to the location.
As officers approached, a vehicle left the residence and was stopped a short distance away. One of the occupants, 19-year-old Francisco Saucedo, was positively identified as the person who fired shots toward the five officers and victim.
Detectives collected evidence from the scene, which included shell casings and bullet fragments. They also located areas where bullets struck the car wash building, which were in close proximity to the victims.
Saucedo was booked into the Pima County Jail on the following felony charges: five counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon, one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, one count of drive-by shooting, and one count discharging a firearm within city limits.
