Sierra Vista Man Arrested For Vehicle Theft

On Saturday January 6, 2018 at approximately 10:00 pm, a Cochise County Sheriff’s Deputy was travelling south on State Route 92 south of Sierra Vista when he observed a vehicle that appeared to be following him. The Deputy took numerous turns to confirm that he was being followed prior to stopping to allow the truck to pass him.

The Deputy advised that the truck pulled up to the side of his vehicle and the driver of the truck asked for identification from the Deputy. The Deputy then asked why the driver, who was subsequently identified as 41 year old Cameron Smith of Sierra Vista, was following him. Mr. Smith advised that he wanted to know the identity of the Deputy and no further reason was given.

As records check was completed for the driver and the vehicle, at which time it was discovered that the vehicle was reported stolen on Thursday January 4, 2018 from the Sierra Vista area.

Cameron Smith was taken into custody and booked into the Cochise County Jail on charges of Motor Vehicle Theft, False Reporting to a Police Officer, and Theft.
