Pedestrian Killed In Golf Links Road Collision

On February 11, 2018, just before 1:30 a.m., Tucson Police officers were flagged down about a serious injury pedestrian collision near E. Golf Links Road and S. Wilmot Road. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male, 30-year-old Ivan Rodriguez,  in the roadway and immediately began rendering first aid.

Tucson Fire responded and transported Mr. Rodriguez Banner University Medical Center with life threatening injuries. Shortly after arrival, he sadly succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Detectives were able to determine that a white 2011 Kia Soul was traveling eastbound on Golf Links in the curb lane. As the driver was approaching S. Calle Polar he noticed several pedestrians, Mr. Rodriguez, standing on the south side of the roadway and he began to slow down. As he got closer, one of the pedestrians attempted to cross the road and ran northbound in front of his vehicle. The driver was unable to stop in time and struck Mr. Rodriguez. Police officers at a nearby convenience store were notified and responded. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Speed does not appear to be a factor in the collision and the driver showed no signs of impairment. Mr. Rodriguez was not in a crosswalk. There was a marked crosswalk with a signal light to the west of the incident location at Wilmot Road and a marked crosswalk with a HAWK crossing light just east of the incident location at Calle Polar.
