Tucson Woman Dies From Injuries Sustained In January Crash

On January 28, 2018, just after 1:00 p.m., Tucson Police officers and members of the Tucson Fire Department responded to a report of a serious injury collision at the intersection of E. Speedway Blvd. and N. Sarnoff Dr. Upon arrival, two vehicles were located at the intersection. Tucson Fire transported the occupants of both vehicles to a local hospital.

Officers investigated the collision and were able to determine that a 2014 Chevrolet Sonic was southbound on Sarnoff, intending to cross Speedway. As the Sonic pulled into the intersection, it was struck by a 2004 Dodge Pickup Truck that was traveling westbound on Speedway. The Sonic was occupied by a driver and two passengers. The rear seat passenger, 72-year-old Estella Gonzales, was admitted to the hospital and later released. On February 1, 2018, she was readmitted to the hospital due to complications. On February 7, 2018, Ms. Gonzales sadly passed away. The Pima County Medical Examiner’s Office reviewed the case and on February 13, 2018, they concluded that the collision was the primary cause of her death.

This investigation is ongoing. No citations or arrests have been issued at this time.
