Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the Brian A. Terry Station arrested a convicted sex offender Wednesday morning after he illegally re-entered the U.S. near Naco, Arizona.

Agents encountered 41-year-old Angel Bautista-Sanchez, a Mexican national, shortly after he snuck across the international border east of the Naco Port of Entry. After his arrest, agents transported Bautista to the station for processing.

When agents conducted a records check on Bautista, they discovered he was convicted in 2013 for “lewd or lascivious acts with a minor” in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Bautista is being held on immigration violations related to re-entry of a previously deported felon.

All persons apprehended by the Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using biometrics to ensure illegal immigrants with criminal histories are positively identified.
