Tucson Man Dies After Single Vehicle Rollover, Evading Police

On February 24, 2018, at approximately 1:50 a.m., Tucson Police officers attempted to stop a silver 2005 Cadillac CTS, driven by 27-year-old Gilbert Graeda, for a traffic violation. Graeda refused to stop and fled from officers in the area of East Golf Links Road and South Craycroft Road.

Officers did not pursue the vehicle. Approximately 10 minutes later, officers were dispatched to a single vehicle rollover collision in the area of East Golf Links Road and East Aviation Parkway.

Upon arrival, officers learned the vehicle involved in the rollover was the same vehicle that fled from the attempted traffic stop. Rural Metro Fire was on scene and transported Graeda to Banner University Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

Detectives were able to determine the Cadillac was traveling westbound on East Golf Links Road at a high rate of speed. Graeda attempted to veer onto East Aviation Parkway and lost control of the vehicle, causing it to rollover. Graeda was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.

On February 25, 2018, Graeda succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Excessive speed appears to be a major contributing factor in the collision.
