Former Pima County resident Christine Bauserman submitted her resignation from the Department of Interior today, according to CNN. Bauserman’s highly questionable social media posts cost her position as a special assistant to Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke.

One Phoenix Valley GOP activist said of the news, “The big question is why she was appointed to that position?”

Bauserman, who earned a reputation as flame thrower while working with various campaigns in Arizona, frequently served as an attack dog for Arizona’s RNC Committeeman Bruce Ash. Her claims to be a member of the AZGOP grassroots, while serving the establishment’s Ash and others, earned her the scorn of a wide range of Arizona Republicans.

According to CNN, “A KFile review found that Bauserman repeatedly shared conspiracy theories, made anti-Muslim comments and shared anti-LGBT sentiments on social media.”

“The positions expressed by Ms. Bauserman are inappropriate and unacceptable, and they are not consistent with those of the Secretary or the Trump Administration. The Department has accepted Ms. Bauserman’s letter of resignation,” CNN quoted Heather Swift, a spokeswoman for Department of the Interior.
