Cochise County Residents Warned Of Coyotes Hunting In Packs

The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office has received multiple calls regarding coyotes running loose in residential neighborhoods, as well as packing together to attack livestock. The Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Division reports that is working closely with USDA Officers to address these issues.

The Sheriff’s Office offers the following advice:

A saying may be “a fed coyote is a dead coyote” because the animal becomes accustomed to humans providing food which they then may take as an invitation to become aggressive to humans who do not provide food.

Coyotes are in residential neighborhoods looking for food and have been feasting on local cats and dogs. These are also some of your pets.

Coyotes have been attacking and killing livestock that includes calves (at a cost of $900 each) which is causing ranchers an economic hardship.

Any action such as leaving pet food out overnight or deliberate feeding of wildlife that brings coyotes into your neighborhood, also brings the danger into your neighbors’ neighborhood.

Use caution when you observe any wildlife, and never feed the animals. It is safer for you, your family, your friends, your pets, and the wildlife.
