Cochise County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Saves Hiker, Dog

On Sunday April 24, 2018 the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office was advised of a dehydrated hiker and her dog in the Miller Canyon area. Cochise County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue personnel responded and located a male hiker and a medium/large dog.

The man advised that he was hiking with his friend and her dog when the animal could not continue. The man advised that they were able to get some water from Bathtub Springs for the dog and the woman went back to the car to call for help and get more water.

The man and ten year old Rocko the dog were approximately 3 miles up Miller Canyon from the trailhead and they had already hiked twelve miles before the dog could not continue. Search and Rescue personnel provided water to the animal and made some booties for Rocko so he could attempt to walk. Rocko was able to go a short distance before SAR personnel had to carry him and alternately let him walk and be carried until they reached the bottom.
