Meghan McCain Heading To Be With Family, Asks For Compassion

Meghan McCain, the daughter of Sen. John McCain announced on Twitter today that she was “going home to Arizona to be with my family.” Sen. McCain is battling an aggressive form of brain cancer, and is in failing health.

Even facing death McCain remains bitter. According to the New York Times, McCain’s funeral plans reportedly include Vice President Mike Pence, but not President Trump. On Saturday, the New York Times reported that the senator told this to friends who have come to visit his Arizona ranch.

Due to the lack of transparency about his health, his daughter’s tweets have frequently sparked speculation about the senator’s condition and provided the only glimpses of the senator since he returned to Arizona prior to the 2017 Christmas congressional recess.

Yahoo News reported today, “Former Vice President Joe Biden sat with McCain for 90 minutes Sunday, according to people close to both men. Biden followed McCain’s closest friends, Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and retired Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, who visited McCain at the Mayo Clinic two weeks ago.”

On May 3, the American Academy in Berlin awarded the 2018 Henry A. Kissinger Prize to McCain. According to the organization, “The prize was privately bestowed, and there will be no award ceremony.”

In March, former Vice President Joe Biden accepted the Naval Academy Alumni Association’s award for McCain.

The last publicly available picture of the ill senator was in a tweet by Meghan on March 18.

“His intimates have informed the White House that their current plan for his funeral is for Vice President Mike Pence to attend the service to be held in Washington’s National Cathedral but not President Trump, with whom Mr. McCain has had a rocky relationship,” according to the Times.
