Woman Killed In Tucson Bicycle Collision

On June 12, 2018, shortly before, 5:30 p.m.,  Tucson Police responded to the area of W. Ft. Lowell Rd. and N. Castro Ave. in regards to a fatal collision involving a bicyclist, 34-year-old Katie A. Tucker. 

Detectives were able to determine Ms. Tucker was riding westbound on Ft. Lowell Rd. in the curb lane, passing through the intersection of N. Castro Ave. The driver of a beige 2000 Ford Focus was westbound on Ft. Lowell Rd. in the curb lane approaching N. Castro Ave. and began to merge into the median lane, checking the mirror. The driver changed lanes and then observed Ms. Tucker directly in front of the vehicle. The driver was not able to stop and collided with Ms. Tucker.

Witnesses reported Ms. Tucker made an abrupt left turn from the curb lane directly in front of the vehicle. Ms. Tucker was not wearing a helmet. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Neither speed nor impairments appear to be factors in the collision. No citations or arrests have been issued at this time.
