The deceased suspect in an officer involved shooting on Saturday night in Pima County has been identified as Vincent James Ewer II, age 39.
The Pima County Sheriff’s deputies involved have been identified as Paul Petropoulos, a 22 year veteran, and Sergeant Aaron Cross, a 17 year veteran.
On Saturday, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Pima County deputies were involved in a vehicle pursuit that went into the parking lot of the Casino Del Sol on West Valencia Road. A Pascua Yaqui Police Department vehicle was struck by Ewer’s vehicle at this location. Ewer ran into the desert area from the vehicle. Deputies pursued Ewer, who was armed with a firearm. Two deputies fired at Ewer, who was pronounced dead at the scene
No deputies were injured in this incident. A Pascua Yaqui Police Department officer did receive minor injuries from the collision with Ewer’s vehicle, but was not transported to the hospital.
