Driver Cited As “Stupid Motorist” In Mohave County

On the afternoon of October 13,the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue swift water team was activated to respond to a 61-year-old male motorist who had failed to obey traffic control devices and intentionally went around a barricaded road that had been closed off due to unsafe road conditions.

The driver passed through the barricades and attempted to cross through a flooded section of Topock Highway, which had been closed earlier that day. Swift water rescuers entered into the waste deep waters and were able to reach the driver and bring him to safety at higher ground.

The driver was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device A.R.S. 28-910, which is more commonly known in Arizona as the “stupid motorist law.”
