Ducey Orders Flags At Half-Staff For Staff Sergeant Flores

Today, flags will fly at half-staff in honor of Staff Sergeant Maximo A. Flores of Litchfield Park. Staff Sergeant Maximo Flores was killed during a midair collision involving a Marine refueling aircraft and a fighter jet last week off the coast of Japan. 

Governor Doug Ducey ordered that flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset today, Wednesday, December 12, 2018 on the day of Staff Sergeant Maximo Flores’ interment, which has not been set.

“The hearts of Arizonans are heavy today after hearing of the loss of Staff Sergeant Maximo Flores,” said Governor Ducey. “My prayers go out to his family and loved ones as they mourn during this difficult time. Arizona is grateful for Staff Sergeant Flores’ service and dedication to defending our country. In honor of his life and service, I’ve ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff.”

According to the Marine Corps, the crew aboard the aerial refueling plane included Staff Sgt. Flores, Lt. Col. Kevin Herrmann, age 38; of New Bern, N.C.; Cpl. William Carter Ross, age 21, of Hendersonville, Tenn.; Cpl. Daniel Baker, age 21, Tremont, Ill.; and Maj. James Brophy, age 36, of Staatsburg, N.Y.
