Tucson man shoots attempted carjacker, 3 in custody

Tho Tucson teens, Eduardo Carranza, age 19, Francisco Morales, age 18, and a 17-year-old juvenile are in custody in connection to a homicide that occurred late Wednesday night on Tucson’s East Side.

According to the Tucson Police Department, just before midnight on February 27, 2019, Tucson Police officers responded to the Walmart located at 7150 E. Speedway Boulevard for reports of a shooting in the parking lot.

When they arrived, officers found 18-year-old Juan Andres Allen suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased on scene.

Officers “learned that an SUV fled the scene shortly after the shooting. A description of the SUV was obtained and broadcast over the radio. A short time later, responding officers located the SUV in the 8600 block of East Old Spanish Trail,” reports Tucson Police Department (TPD).

The SUV was occupied by Carranza, Morales and the juvenile.

Gang Detectives believe that Allen was in the SUV when it entered the Walmart parking lot. Allen and Carranza, exited the SUV armed with handguns and approached a man sitting in his car. Allen and Carranza attempted to carjack the victim and a physical altercation ensued. During the altercation, the victim pulled out his own handgun and shot Allen multiple times. Carranza ran back to the SUV and drove away with the others involved. The victim remained on scene and cooperated with detectives.

The SUV was reported stolen on February 20, 2019.

Carranza was arrested and charged with 1st Degree Murder, Attempted Armed Robbery and Attempted Aggravated Robbery. Morales was arrested and charged with Theft of Means of Transportation (GTA). Both were booked into the Pima County Jail.

The Juvenile was booked into the Pima County Juvenile Correction Center on felony charges.

  1. Beware thief’s, gang members and criminals. Arizona is a carry state and you will be shot if you do shit like this.

  2. A trained armed citizenry will not be victims. Whoever thinks banning guns will keep people safe forgets that only criminals will have guns and people at their mercy or lack of. There are gun ranges who will train anyone to not only be comfortable with guns but become proficient in being calm and accurate in their gun use.
Criminals include not only low level thugs but our government as well.

  3. Given that this happened in Tucson, I’m surprised the shooter (victim) wasn’t arrested and charged with murder. After all, these three misguided youths (or “youts”. Thank you Vinny) were merely attempting to expand their transportation options by the only method they knew.
