Tucson man shoots attempted carjacker, 3 in custody

Tho Tucson teens, Eduardo Carranza, age 19, Francisco Morales, age 18, and a 17-year-old juvenile are in custody in connection to a homicide that occurred late Wednesday night on Tucson’s East Side.

According to the Tucson Police Department, just before midnight on February 27, 2019, Tucson Police officers responded to the Walmart located at 7150 E. Speedway Boulevard for reports of a shooting in the parking lot.

When they arrived, officers found 18-year-old Juan Andres Allen suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased on scene.

Officers “learned that an SUV fled the scene shortly after the shooting. A description of the SUV was obtained and broadcast over the radio. A short time later, responding officers located the SUV in the 8600 block of East Old Spanish Trail,” reports Tucson Police Department (TPD).

Allen and Carranza attempted to carjack the victim and a physical altercation ensued. During the altercation, the victim pulled out his own handgun and shot Allen multiple times. Carranza ran back to the SUV and drove away with the others involved. The victim remained on scene and cooperated with detectives.

The SUV was reported stolen on February 20, 2019.

Carranza was arrested and charged with 1st Degree Murder, Attempted Armed Robbery and Attempted Aggravated Robbery. Morales was arrested and charged with Theft of Means of Transportation (GTA). Both were booked into the Pima County Jail.

The Juvenile was booked into the Pima County Juvenile Correction Center on felony charges.
