Teen Drowns Lake Pleasant Despite Bystanders” Life-Saving Efforts

On Friday, at approximately 1:30 p.m., an unidentified 16-year-old boy was swimming with friends at Lake Pleasant in the area of Desert Tortoise when he began having difficulty swimming and began to struggle.

According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, a friend attempted to assist him but was unable and he eventually went under the surface.

Bystanders in the area were able to pull the boy to the surface within minutes and began immediate CPR. Lake Patrol Deputies arrived on scene a short time later and continued life saving measures while transporting him to the 10 Lane Boat Ramp where medical personnel were waiting. The boy was transported by ground to Abrazo Peoria Emergency Center where he was later pronounced deceased despite continued life support measures.

The Sheriff’s Office stated in a press release that the evidence does not suggest any alcohol, drugs, or foul play.
