Pima County woman facing charges following fatal hit-and-run in Foothills

A Pima County woman, Daniela Shelby, is in custody in connection with a fatal pedestrian crash on Sunrise late Wednesday, on May 8.

According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Office, on May 8 at approximately 9:24 p.m., deputies responded to the area of East Sunrise Drive and North Hacienda del Sol Road after receiving multiple calls about a man standing in eastbound traffic. While en route, deputies received updated information the male was now laying in the roadway.

Deputies found the man in the roadway with obvious signs of trauma from being hit by a vehicle. The man was pronounced deceased on scene.

Shelby, age 25, fled the scene prior to deputies’ arrival in her vehicle. During the course of the investigation a vehicle was located approximately one mile away from the incident, which appeared to have been in a collision and was abandoned.

Daniela was arrested for Aggravated Driving under the Influence, Manslaughter, and Failure to Remain at the Scene of a Collision Causing Death.

It appeared the victim had been struck by more than one vehicle, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to call 9-1-1.
