President Donald Trump honored Begaye and two other Navajo Code Talkers at the White House in November 2017. “Fleming Begaye is 97 years old, the oldest veteran of World War II,” said Trump during the ceremony. “He survived the Battle of Tarawa. His landing craft was blown up and he literally had to swim to the beach to survive. Also, on Saipan, he also landed on Tinian where he got shot up real badly, and survived one year in a naval hospital.”

  1. Slowly but surely all the Native American hero’s of WWII that helped us win the war in the Pacific are leaving us. I wish today’s generation could really appreciate and understand what sacrifices that they made for all of us. Rest in Peace and thank you for going above and beyond for me.

  2. Thank you for your service, and rest in peace, Sir.
May family and friends find comfort in precious memories.

  3. Thank You for your Service Mr Begaye.
You served at the same time as my father. Bless your family and may your service never be forgotton ever.

  4. Thankyou to “The Greatest Generation” of WW2. Without these heros we’d be speaking German or
Japanese. What they did was the greatest challenge for freedom at any cost including their
lives. God bless all who gave some & the some who gave all!

  5. The picture accompanying this article says it all. Patriotic Americans. You won’t see the Pelosi witch or Rahooie Grizelda stooping so low as to greet a WWII veteran. They can’t even do their job, only serve as an obstruction. And by the way…none of this will mean anything to the current generation.. they can’t even remember what happened yesterday. The fact that Americans came together and removed evil from the world doesn’t mean a thing to the “self-phone” generation. Semper Fi and rest in piece Mr.
