Reaction was swift to Arizona Governor Doug Ducey’s decision to withdraw a financial incentive package for Nike because the company canceled a sneaker featuring the “Betsy Ross” American flag.
In a series of tweets early Tuesday, the Republican governor said he was disappointed in Nike’s “terrible” decision, which he called a “shameful retreat.”
Gov. Ducey just sent a strong message to Nike, when it comes to disrespecting our flag, just don’t “do it”. https://t.co/9glaKdmbco

I’m glad Arizona won’t be incentivizing a company who continues to prove it is out of line with the values of the Grand Canyon State. https://t.co/0q2LoeFlNL

We must respect the flag and honor those who died defending it. @Nike is wrong. Thank you @dougducey for your leadership. https://t.co/AyUg3BeyQl

Doug Ducey is taking a page out of Donald Trump's playbook – playing politics rather than focusing on creating jobs for Arizonans. CD7 would welcome the Nike facility and its good paying jobs! Please contact my office if you need any help.

THREAD 1/Here's where we are as politicians. We either aren't courageous or smart enough to acknowledge when extremist, white supremacist & flat out racist groups use a historical symbol in a blatant attempt to re-define it as a symbol of hate and make us adopt their new language https://t.co/WRh3HzoKTL

If you’re offended by a shoe celebrating the flag of the American Revolution, it’s a good indication that you may be better off living in a permanent safe space.
Or Cuba.
