A Victorville, California teen, Chance Huerta, has been identified as the victim of a drowning that occurred on July 5, after he jumped off a cliff into the Colorado River north of Lake Havasu.

The 16-year-old’s body was recovered by dive teams Saturday morning.

According to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, on Friday at approximately 4:20 p.m., the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Division of Boating Safety “was notified of a subject that jumped into the water near Mohave Rock, and had not resurfaced. Early reports indicated that a 16 year old male jumped off a cliff near Mohave Rock, just north of the Sand Bar, and failed to resurface.”

Dive teams and side scan sonar were used for underwater searches, while Search and Rescue Units were activated for shoreline and aerial searches.
