Kingman Couple Arrested After Body Found Buried Inside 55-Gallon Drum

A Kingman couple, Mark Anthony Baldanado Jr., and Carrie Conlyn Vanover, are in custody after a body was found buried in a 55 gallon drum.

According to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, information was received on Friday, July 12, of a potential unreported homicide that occurred in April 2019 at a home in the 4500 block of Glen Rd. in Kingman.

Surveillance was conducted, and the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office personnel served a search warrant of the residence. Baldanado, age 31 and Vanover, confessed to their involvement in the murder. During the search warrant, the body of the victim was found concealed within a 55 gallon drum, which was buried in a shallow grave in the backyard of the property.

The victim is believed to be Shawn Maureen Vanover, the mother of Carrie Vanover.

Baldanado, age 31 and Vanover, age 23, were arrested and charged with first degree murder and were transported to Mohave County Adult Detention Facility.

An autopsy of the victim will be conducted to positively identify and determine the manner of death. This investigation is ongoing.
