A Mexican national smuggling methamphetamine while traveling with his pregnant wife and three children was arrested on Monday by Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents working at the Highway 78 Immigration Checkpoint in Blythe, California.
The man, a 1997 Nissan Maxima, was referred to a secondary inspection by Blythe Station agents after a drug sniffing dog alerted the agents. A search of the man revealed approximately 5.3 pounds of methamphetamine wrapped in cellophane around his waist.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the narcotics have an estimated street value of $12,190.
The 31-year-old man was arrested for controlled substance violations. His wife, a Mexican national lawfully admitted for permanent residence, and the couple’s children were released.
The vehicle and narcotics were seized, according to CBP.
