Hoffman’s ESA Action: Punishment or Hostage Taking?

If four percent (4%) additional funding, as stated, could solve the Empowerment Scholarship fiasco, why are two (2) families being singled out for punishment?

  • Just because a Superintendent of Instruction can?
  • Politics and theater?
  • Under another elected or groups directions?

In the local news, we learn about families trying to exercise their rights to free and appropriate education for their children are being denied. The children and parents simply want them to be in school, and the learning must go on. Even those who have experienced prior approval.

We, as taxpayers need to ask, WHY, and why now? How many more cases exist in our state that is outstanding?  Months later the Assistant Superintendent will only say new funding could make the system work correctly. Is this HOSTAGE TAKING?

We don’t see public schools seeking to enroll the children, WHY?

We do hear Representative Mark Fichmen is calling for an investigation.  We see Representative Townsend showing support for her colleague, and asking Representative Kern to inquire about audit measures.

The families are in the Arizona Department of Education paperwork limbo with coding errors and rescind letters. Is it “Hostage Taking Punishment”?

According to the Arizona Department of Education website:  The Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) program is an account administered by The Arizona Department of Education that is funded by state tax dollars to provide educational options for qualified Arizona students. By opting out of the public school system, parents can seek a range of alternative educational services, such as private school or home-based education, to tailor an individualized educational plan that is best for their child.  The ESA program is not affiliated with any services, providers, vendors or websites, please ensure you are referring to our website and documents for program direction.
