Mesa Man Turns Himself In After Shooting, Killing Brother-In-Law

On Monday, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Jesse Hernandez turned himself in at the Phoenix Police Department in connection with the shooting death of Khalil Evans that occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m.

According to Mesa Police, officers responded to a shooting call at the Coral Point Apartments located at 2343 W Main. Officers found Evans, with multiple gunshot wounds. Evans was transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries and later died at the hospital.

Hernandez told detectives that he was at the scene and possessed a firearm and fired it during the incident. Hernandez said he was visiting his estranged wife at the scene and said Evans is his brother-in-law. He said Evans approached him as he was leaving the scene and asked him if he had a missing key. Hernandez admitted to firing the handgun prior to leaving.

Hernandez was charged with one count of Second Degree Murder and one count of Misconduct Involving Weapons.
