Unborn baby, 18-year-old male dead after accident in northwest Phoenix

PHOENIX — Jonathan Marroquin, age 18, and an unborn baby of an unidentified 15-year-old female died Thursday after a car struck several people following a collision in northwest Phoenix.

The 15-year-old female and an 18-year-old female were taken to the hospital and are expected to be okay.

Four others were struck but were not transported to the hospital.

According to Phoenix Police, two vehicles collided around 11:15 a.m. near 35th Avenue and Bell Road. One of the vehicles traveled onto the north sidewalk after the collision, striking several pedestrians at a bus stop.

One of the vehicles was headed eastbound on Bell Road and was preparing to make a left-hand turn, while the other vehicle was traveling westbound.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation. Police believe speed might have been a factor, and plan to file manslaughter, aggravated assault and endangerment charges.
