Teen Rescued From Nearly 50 Feet Deep New River Mine Shaft

NEW RIVER – On Friday evening, a teenager was rescued from a nearly 50 feet deep abandoned mine shaft in New River in the area of Desert Hills and New River Road.

Glendale, Daisy Mountain, Phoenix & Peoria Fire Departments rescued the 17-year-old after he fell into the shaft while out riding on a quad. When crews arrived at the scene, they saw the four-wheeler flipped over and on top of the teen in the mine shaft.

The teen was airlifted by a helicopter to Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
