PHOENIX – On Tuesday the Phoenix Police Department announced that officers will no longer be trained or allowed to use the ‘carotid control’ (chock hold) technique, effective immediately.
Police Chief Jeri Williams released a statement saying, “We can’t function as a department without the trust of our community and there are adjustments we can make to strengthen that trust.”

The Department allowed the use of the technique in certain circumstances.
The policy change follows the murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis officer.
