Tolleson Police Commander Rudy Mendoza has been chosen to replace retiring Chief of Police Wayne Booher. Booher is retiring after serving as chief for the last four years.

Booher served 28 years with the City of Tolleson.

Mendoza will assume his new role immediately upon the retirement of Chief Wayne Booher in January.

“We have come a long way since the agricultural times and I am honored to have served you and your families. Your support of your Police Department has always been a priority for you and this support is why we have the best Police Department in the entire state today. Your continued support will be critical as there is still much work to do,” stated Chief Wayne Booher.

Mendoza is a 20-year veteran of the Tolleson Police Department who began his career with the Tolleson Police Department in July of 2000 as a Dispatcher. After dispatching for approximately 10 months, was hired as a Police Officer and attended the Phoenix Regional Police Academy, class #354. His first assignment with the Tolleson Police Department was in patrol. After five years of working patrol he earned a promotion to Sergeant. As a Sergeant, he supervised patrol squads and completed a 2-year rotation as the Criminal Investigations Sergeant. In 2017, he moved up the rank to Commander and was assigned to oversee Police Operations.

Commander Mendoza is a graduate of both Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command class #318 and the FBI National Academy class #273.
