Senate Audit Twitter Account Returns To Civil Tone

Senate audit liaison Ken Bennett appears to have regained control of the audit team’s official Twitter account on Monday.

Followers of @ArizonaAudit noticed over the last week that tweets had become more partisan and directed toward those who questioned or criticized the audit. The main target was Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, called “Kooky Katie” in some recent tweets, who it was announced last week has been assigned a security detail by Gov. Doug Ducey.

Bennett, a former Senate President and Secretary of State, says he recognized the tone and tenure of the tweets had changed – like a “bunch of third grade bullies.” The reason is that he was receiving help managing the account from an associate of Cyber Ninja owner Doug Logan.

But then someone removed Bennett’s Twitter handle from the account profile. And changed the password, he said.

Bennett had more urgent matters requiring his attention at the time, such as pushing hard on hand counting of nearly 2.1 million ballots and arranging to clear all audit equipment and property off the floor of Arizona Veterans Coliseum after this Friday. The issues with the Twitter account, while an annoyance, were not essential to moving audit activities forward, Bennett says.

On Monday, Senate President Karen Fann disavowed responsibility for the Twitter account, which is described as the “Official Account for the Maricopa County 2020 Forensic Election Audit.”  Bennett appears to have finally regained control by Monday evening and the tweets once again reflected his calm demeanor. And one in particular expressed a conciliatory tone.

“It is never OK to threaten somebody’s life. We are never going to get 100% of people to agree on what candidate should win, but we can all agree that 100% of people want to have confidence in the integrity of the process,” the tweet read.
