New Charges Filed Against West Valley Serial Shooter

crime scene notice

The 19-year-old man accused of engaging in a shooting spree across the West Valley earlier this month which left one dead and several injured has been charged with additional firearms-related offenses which investigators say were committed in the days before the deadly rampage.

Ashin Scott Tricarico was initially charged with 28 felonies for eight incidents on June 17 across Peoria, Glendale, and Surprise. One charge is first-degree murder for the death of David Liebler, a 67-year-old Sun City man shot in the neck as he drove near the Loop 101 and Thunderbird Road.

Four other people suffered gunshot wounds while some victims were injured from broken glass and shrapnel. A toddler riding in a vehicle that was shot at was not injured. Others reported having a gun pointed or fired at them but were not injured, including two people in their 80s, authorities say.

Court records show Tricarico is now also charged with three felonies stemming from incidents on June 10 and June 16, according to court records. He remains in the Maricopa County jail in lieu of $1 million bail.

Victims and witnesses identified the shots as coming from a white SUV. Surprise police officers found an AR-15 rifle and two magazines in a white SUV that Tricarico was driving when he was arrested June 17. He was taken into custody without incident, according to Surprise PD Sgt. Tommy Hall.

As the investigation continued, detectives identified Tricarico as the person who allegedly pointed a firearm at a woman who was sitting in her car on June 10 near West Lake Pleasant Pkwy and N 91st Ave.  Detectives also allege Tricarico pointed a rifle at a man at a gas station on June 16. The man later reported hearing a gunshot as he drove behind the gunman near N 91st Ave. and West Olive Ave.

Public records show Liebler drove a short distance after being shot, then his truck went off the roadway into a canal. He died at the scene, less than two miles from home. Tricarico was scheduled for a June 28 preliminary hearing but the proceeding is not listed on the judge’s calendar for Monday.

In May, Tricarico was involved in a workplace shooting at a Phoenix nightclub where he was licensed, armed security guard. He told investigators he shot a drunken patron who threatened him.  The man who was shot in that incident reportedly had a .299 BAC.

Tricarico has reportedly told investigators he believed someone was following him in connection to the nightclub incident.
