Over the last 30 years, Scott Bernstein has lawfully apprehended more than 6,200 people across the globe, including fugitives from justice, organized crime soldiers, sex offenders, sex trafficking predators, war criminals, and terrorists.

Now, he has turned his attention to locating Daniel Jawara Foster, who was indicted by a Cochise County grand jury on Aug. 26 for multiple felonies related to the June 2020 death of Kenny “Bubs” Gamble, age 2. The charges also include alleged abuse of two other children in the apartment Foster shared with the children’s mother, Alysha Hop.

Bounty hunters are also referred to by other titles, such as bail enforcement officers, recovery special agents, and U.S. bail agents. They typically track down fugitives who skip bail and thus have a reward on their head from the bond company.

There is no such bounty for Foster, but Bernstein told Arizona Daily Independent he has known Bubs’ maternal grandmother for many years and got involved in the search for Foster due to that friendship. He and his company, Bounty Hunter Training Academy, are even offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of Foster, whom the longtime bounty hunter calls a “scumbag.”

Anyone with information about where Foster is, or even where he has been recently, can be eligible for a reward if the tip is called into Bernstein at 845-270-7777.

Sierra Vista Det. Paul Youman said Friday there is an active nationwide warrant for Foster’s arrest with $1 million bail. He also confirmed having communication with the U.S. Marshals Service about the warrant dur to the fact Foster moved to Texas shortly after the toddler’s death.

“I’m in support of anything that helps us locate Daniel Foster and move the case forward,” Youman said when asked about Bernstein’s involvement.

Emergency responders arrived at the Foster – Hop apartment around 11 a.m. June 3, 2020, after Foster called 911 to report an unresponsive child. Bubs was removed from life support at a Tucson hospital three days later. His cause of death is listed as blunt trauma to the head resulting in a lack of oxygen or blood flow to the brain.

The autopsy report also noted 15 purple colored contusions consistent with bruising, four of which were located on the boy’s head.

Bernstein’s involvement in the search for Foster will likely national attention to the case, as he has been featured on television shows such as 60 Minutes and The Oprah Winfrey Show. Bernstein has also served as a subject expert for Court TV and has provided bounty hunter services for the reality show America’s Most Wanted.

In 2016, Bernstein made headlines when he took fugitive Joshua Galarthy into custody after Galarthy had been on the run for nearly 30 years from warrants issued in the U.S. and Canada.

Bernstein, a member of the COBRA – Coalition of Bail Recovery Agents, is also the founder of Child Recovery International, which is involved in rescuing victims of human trafficking, sex trafficking, parental abductions, and kidnapping.

While authorities look for Foster, the boy’s mother remains in the Cochise County jail in lieu of a $1 million bond to await trial on the same four charges as Foster. Hop has told investigators she was not home when Bubs fell ill and only returned home after Foster called her.  She turned herself in to Sierra Vista officers on Sept. 1, just days after news of her indictment became public.
