A 71-year-old woman, Sandra Judson, was found unresponsive by Pima County Jail staff on October 9, 2021, at the Pima County Adult Detention Complex. Johnson had been in custody in connection with a shooting that occurred on October 5.

According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Office, detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division responded to the jail and found no signs of trauma and no suspicious circumstances surrounding Judson’s death.

On October 5, just after 4:00 p.m., deputies responded to the 17000 block of West Bacabi Road, near Silverbell and North Cocio, for a report of a shooting. A person called 9-1-1 reporting they had been shot.

When deputies arrived they made contact with the injured person, Judson’s son, outside the residence. The son was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies attempted to make contact with Judson, the accused shooter; however, she had barricaded herself inside the residence, armed with a gun.

Deputies attempted to establish contact with Judson and began giving commands over a loudspeaker. Judson allegedly refused commands to exit the home.

A warrant was obtained and SWAT entered the residence and took Judson into custody without incident.

Judson was transported to an area hospital for unrelated medical issues and subsequently booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Complex for Attempted Second Degree Murder.
