On Thursday, the Biden administration issued an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulation requiring that businesses mandate COVID-19 vaccinations for their workers. On Wednesday, in anticipation of the mandate, Arizona Rep. Andy Biggs introduced a bill to fight what some say is a “direct attack” on personal liberty.

Biggs introduced the Nullify the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Act, to abolish the agency for “usurping states’ authorities and forcing Biden’s vaccine mandate on the private sector.

“OSHA’s existence is yet another example of the federal government creating agencies to address issues that are more appropriately handled by state governments and private employers,” said Biggs. “Arizona, and every other state, has the constitutional right to establish and implement their own health and safety measures, and is more than capable of doing so. It’s time that we fight back against the bloated federal government and eliminate agencies that never should have been established in the first place. I will not let OSHA push Arizona around with their bureaucratic regulations and urge my colleagues to support my effort to eliminate this unconstitutional federal agency.”

In 1974, the federal government adopted Arizona’s state plan for workplace safety whereby Arizona’s agency, the Industrial Commission of Arizona (ICA), is charged with regulating workplace safety.

The OSHA rules require businesses with more than 100 employees to require that workers either be vaccinated, or that they be tested for COVID-19 every week and masked while at work.
