Jacob Chansley, otherwise known as the Q Shaman, plans to appeal his conviction and nearly 3 1/2-year prison sentence for his participation in the protest at the U.S. Capitol on January 6.

A notice was filed in court Tuesday on behalf of Chansley, best known for his face paint and furry hat with horns.

Chansley is appealing his guilty plea on the basis of ineffective assistance of counsel. Chansley is replacing Albert Watkins, who many court watchers believe was not zealously representing his client and appeared to hold him in contempt, with John Pierce.

The change in attorneys came during a brief hearing Monday before U.S. District Judge Royce C. Lamberth, who sentenced Chansley on Nov. 17 to 41 months in prison and another three years of supervised release for his guilty plea to one count of obstructing an official proceeding in the Jan. 6 assault.
