A one-vehicle rollover on State Route 90 during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend has led to two DUI charges against a Sierra Vista man.

Jerry Eugene Jones was behind the wheel of a Toyota sedan witnesses observed swerving between lanes near RV City around 11 p.m. Nov. 26. The Toyota then left the roadway, before traveling about 100 feet and landing on its roof.

Witnesses who approached the accident scene told the responding state trooper that Jones, 26, smelled of alcohol. Several alcohol containers were found inside the Toyota which had a Washington State license plate.

After being check out by first responders, Jones was cited for two misdemeanor DUI charges but instead of being booked into the Cochise County jail he was released at the trooper’s discretion with an order to appear in Sierra Vista Justice Court for an initial court appearance Dec. 9.

The charges are DUI with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or more and DUI while impaired to the slightest degree. The significantly damaged vehicle was towed from the scene.
