A Bisbee teen who suffered fatal knife wounds during an impromptu camping trip with three friends last weekend was able to place the 911 call that sent emergency responders to the scene, Arizona Daily Independent has learned.

Quin Calum Radhe was pronounced deceased in the Juniper Flats area of the Mule Mountains shortly after midnight on Saturday morning. An autopsy report should be able to tell if the fatal wounds were caused by stabbing or deep cuts, according to Carol Capas, spokeswoman for the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.

Capas says Radhe and his friends were planning to camp in Radhe’s van Friday night when something went horribly amiss. The 911 call from Radhe triggered a response from multiple agencies, and upon arrival three young males were found with knife wounds of varying severity.

On Monday, 17-year-old Christopher Golden was arrested by deputies as he was being released from a Tucson hospital. Golden, who also resides in Bisbee, had been airlifted from the scene on Dec. 19 to that same hospital with serious, self-inflicted wounds.

“Through interviews and investigation, it is determined that there were drugs involved in this incident and (Golden) reportedly attempted to harm himself with a knife before the others tried to subdue him when one received serious injuries and the other ultimately died,” Capas said Tuesday.

A 16-year-old in the group was transported to a local hospital Saturday morning for treatment of injuries he received during the struggle with Golden. He has since been released. A fourth teen, also 16, had fled the area but returned to the scene a short time later. He was uninjured, Capas said.

Golden was booked into the Cochise County jail on charges of second-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and two counts of aggravated assault of a peace officer. He is charged as an adult due to the nature of offenses, although the case could be transferred to Cochise County Juvenile Court at a future date.

As of press time Golden remains in jail in lieu of a $150,000 bond ordered during his initial court appearance. His next hearing is set for Jan. 3 at the Bisbee Justice Court, although that hearing would be vacated if a Cochise County grand jury issues an indictment before then.

Radhe’s vehicle was seized in accordance with a search warrant and taken to the Cochise County Sheriff’s evidence lot in Bisbee, Capas said. A knife was also recovered at the scene.

A celebration of Radhe’s life is planned for this Sunday at the American Legion Post 16 in Bisbee.
