On Monday, Governor Doug Ducey outlined his legislative agenda in his eighth and final State of the State address. The Governor discussed water issues, education, border security and infrastructure and received mixed reviews.
The day’s activities and reactions to it were documented on social media:
It is always an honor to participate in the #OpeningDay2022 of the new #Arizona Legislative Session and hear the Governor’s State of the State speech. Best wishes to Governor @dougducey @9thFloorAZ and the 55th Arizona Legislature for a successful legislative session! #AZLeg pic.twitter.com/cWj0CfgX7g

No mention by Gov. of the state’s most urgent crisis. Without immediate by-partisan legislative action, AZ public schools face 15% mid-year budget cuts, in a pandemic, $1.2 billion in all, because of hitting the artificial “aggregate expenditure limit.” Leading from behind. #SOTS

Governor Ducey gave his State of the State address at the opening session of the state legislature. His speech pleased conservative members with tax cuts, border security, school choice, school reform and more. pic.twitter.com/PCekPEjakW

Remember when they sent you all those awesome bills near the end of the last session, and you vetoed them in a fit of pique because you wanted your budget first?
Because I remember that, @dougducey. https://t.co/znaJ5qlZLc

This is the right call. Arizona must do everything we can to retain and attract the best of the best to keep our families safe. https://t.co/AhFzaFc05m

Gov. Ducey talks about better broadband reach throughout the state. Funds almost all provided by federal #ARPA investment. Thank you, President Biden! #sots #AZLeg

Was just talking @espinozadiego19 about my disappointment that our fabulous #ASL interpreters were NOT on camera for the #SotS. Then we bumped into them!! They do great work. It would be wonderful if our 1.1 million Arizonans who are #Deaf and #HoH could know what was said today pic.twitter.com/ONHjhYVURk

Great to be with Gov @dougducey today for his eighth and final SOTS. The Arizona of today is far more prosperous and free than at any point in our history and it’s all thanks to his steady conservative leadership. Judging by his speech today, he clearly isn’t done yet! pic.twitter.com/cMI8Lbkw8x

At the #SOTS speech today the Governor doesn’t even say the words
👏🏽Teachers
👏🏽Counselors
👏🏽Bus drivers
👏🏽Cafeteria workers
👏🏽Safety in Schools
👏🏽Staff Shortages
We doesn’t matter to him, our kids, our schools, our educators don’t matter to him.— Marisol Garcia (@marisolgarciaaz) January 10, 2022
That’s because every other governor in that period left or gained the office midterm because of Republican scandal or because a Democratic was promoted to the president’s cabinet. #AZUnstoppable #AZGov #SotS https://t.co/qtG13euKVk

Gov @dougducey has NO plan or intent to help the 1M AZ children who desperately need investments in classrooms, educators & resources.
Instead, he is doubling down on failed, unpopular voucher schemes.
AZ families want real solutions for the schools they actually choose #SOTS

“Let’s expand school choice any way we can — greater open enrollment, new transportation models, more charter schools and more educational freedom for families… Let’s think big and find more ways to get kids into the school of their parents’ choice.” –@dougducey #AZUnstoppable

I look forward to tackling this ambitious agenda, one that will cement our success and reforms we’ve made and further expand opportunity in Arizona. #AZUnstoppable pic.twitter.com/99sgG0wEIg
