Phoenix Police are investigating a shooting that occurred near 24th Drive and Thomas Road involving two men on September 19, 2022.
During the gunfire, both men suffered a gunshot wound. Both were transported to the hospital and one, Michael Medina, age 21, was pronounced deceased.
On Monday evening at about 5:00 p.m., Phoenix police were called to a shooting in the area of 24th Drive and Thomas Road. Officers found one man, later identified as Mr. Medina suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening-injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Officers found the suspect nearby suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives believe that Mr. Medina fired a gun at the other man and he returned fire. He was released pending further investigation.
The case will be submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for review once the investigation has been completed.
