Holder Stumps For Hobbs To Help Keep Democrat Voters

“‘When they go low, we go high.’ No. No. When they go low, we kick them,” former Attorney General Eric Holder told Democrats in 2018, recounting a conversation his wife allegedly had with former First Lady Michelle Obama.

With her polling numbers sinking quickly, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Katie Hobbs turned to Holder for a kick start to her campaign on Thursday.

Holder, who has been making campaign visits to swing states like Arizona and Wisconsin, is considered one of the more divisive operatives in the Democratic Party, appealing to die-hard progressives presumed to already support Hobbs, rather than the voters she needs to win a close election – Independents and moderate so-called “Blue Dog” Democrats.

Holder’s visit is seen as a last-minute attempt to generate enthusiasm in Hobbs’ base, which is reportedly turning out in lower numbers than Hobbs will need to win.

“You bring in people like Eric Holder because you’re worried about the enthusiasm in your party’s base.” said Republican consultant Constantin Querard, “He’s not really in town to convince hard-left Democrats to vote for Hobbs — he’s in town to convince hard-left Democrats to vote period.”

The concerns over base turnout among Democrats has surprised many in the party, since they believed abortion rights would take center stage and drive Democratic voters to the polls.

The decision to bring Holder to Arizona also raised Republican eyebrows among those who still see him as the politician most culpable for the death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, who died at the hands of Mexican cartel members using weapons they secured through Holder’s failed gun running sting known as Fast and Furious.
