Katie Hobbs has been declared the winner in the race for Arizona governor by the Associated Press. The call was made after Maricopa County unofficial results were updated late Monday evening for the November General Election.
Governor
Choice | Polling Place | Early Ballot | Provisional Ballot | Total | Percent |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Hobbs, Katie (DEM) | 139,004 | 1,124,792 | 1,535 | 1,265,331 | 50.41% |
Lake, Kari (REP) | 328,485 | 915,405 | 960 | 1,244,850 | 49.59% |
The race has been a roller coaster that has gone on for nearly a week after election day came and went, and while Lake and her spokespeople remained very confident through the weekend, by Sunday the message had begun to shift, as the Hobbs advantage continued to hold up.
Several other statewide offices remain in play, as Democrat Kris Mayes clings to a small lead in the race for Attorney General and Republican Tom Horne does the same in the race for School Superintendent.
Due to the narrow margins of victory, as per Arizona law, the races may go to recounts.
Maricopa, Arizona’s largest county, estimates that its count is 98.6 percent complete.
Maricopa County’s updated results show 1,547,466 ballots have been counted, which represents 63.54 percent of total eligible voters.
The update included 72,523 ballots, nearly all of which were dropped off on Election Day. Other ballots in today’s included count some of the Election Day “door 3” ballots and any cured early ballot envelope signatures.
There are an estimated 5,000 – 15,000 remaining ballots to be counted in Maricopa County:
- Estimated Election Day ballots to be reported: 3,500
- Estimated number of early ballots left to cure: 7,600
- Provisional Ballots Total: 7,885
- Conditional Provisional Ballots: 246
- Provisional Ballots Left to Research: 193
- Provisional Ballots Sent to Tabulation: 2,876
- Provisional Ballots that Will Not Be Counted: 4,570
The deadline to cure questionable signatures and provisional ballots is Wednesday, November 16, at 5 p.m.
