Man Dies After Pulling Gun On Phoenix Police

Phoenix police detectives are investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred on Sunday evening near 43rd Avenue and Encanto Boulevard that left a man dead after he pulled a gun on officers.

Officers responded to a shooting call in a residential neighborhood near 43rd Avenue and Encanto Boulevard. Prior to their arrival, the Phoenix Fire Department was dispatched and responded to a medical call at the same location.

When officers arrived, they were told by fire personnel an adult female victim had suffered a gunshot wound. As officers were investigating the shooting, they were informed the suspect, 42-year-old James Saucedo, was still on scene. As a group of officers moved in to arrest Saucedo, he pulled out a handgun from his waist band. Officers and Saucedo struggled over the gun and this was when the officer involved shooting occurred. Saucedo was struck and dropped the firearm.

After the shooting, officers were able to get the firearm away from Saucedo.

Saucedo later died from his injuries on scene.

The woman from the initial call was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury. There were no other injuries to any other community members or officers.
